Harp Faculty

Rosanna Chiu began her musical journey since age of eight. Classically trained on piano, she become fascinated with string instruments and have received training on guzheng (Chinese harp), and later, Celtic harp and pedal harp.

Graduated from New England Conservatory(Boston, Massachusetts) in harp performance, Rosanna received training from Ina Zdorovetchi (harp) and David Zoffer (jazz). She won awards including the Gold Medal of Royal Conservatory of Music (harp), and scholarship for Féis Seattle (Gaelic music and harp). She is currently studying with Elizabeth Volpé Bligh, Principal Harpist with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She studied privately with Judy Loman, Gianetta Baril, Cynthia Price-Glynn, Cristina Braga, Sharlene Wallace and Alys Howe. Besides being a solo harpist, Rosanna works with local orchestras including Vancouver Oratorio Society, Vancouver Bach Choir, Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble, UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at venues such as the Orpheum and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

In her spare time, Rosanna enjoys making harp arrangements and exploring different music textures on harp both acoustically and with synthesizers.  She is an active member with the American Harp Society and her upcoming project is to develop composer workshops to promote compositions of new harp music.
